Air Defence Command & Control System - NARS

 

NARS is an Air Defense / Surveillance Command and Control System operating at the execution level with the capability to exploit the received Tasking from Higher Echelon.

It is composed of three main functional modules, namely the Air Control Center, the Recognized Air Picture Production Center and the Sensor Fusion Post.

Air Control Center

  • Executes control of all air missions within a designated geographical area
  • Controls air missions for offensive, defensive and support air missions, and coordinates the employment of Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs)
  • Has airspace management, air policing and air traffic control responsibilities within the designated area
  • Receives its tasking from the National, Air Operations Center, via Air Tasking Orders (ATO), Air Control Orders (ACO) and other relevant directives

Recognized Air Picture Production Center

  • Produces the Recognized Air Picture (RAP) data within its assigned area of responsibility and manages its subordinate surveillance assets
  • Disseminates the resulting RAP data throughout the Air Force’s(AF) air defense assets via the existing National network
  • The RAP includes land, maritime and Electronic Warfare information to the extent that information is available from associated AF assets and external data links thus constituting a Joint Environment Picture (JEP)
  • Manages allocated AF assets in accordance with orders and priorities in response to requests from RAP users for additional or improved RAP data

Sensor Fusion Post

  • Develops a Local Air Picture (LAP) through the fusion of data from both active and passive sensors and forwards the data to the Recognized Air Picture Production Center
  • Reports on the status and performance of subordinate sensors
  • Performs remote sensor control for controlling sensor detection and responding to ARM and ECCM threats

Provides interoperability with the Allied entities, while at the same time ensures the protection of the National sensitive information.

It can also incorporate a Voice Communication System (VCS) to include internal and external voice communications, as well as external radio remote control capability to support the operator positions.
